This pressure calculator converts between psi (pounds per square inch) and feet of head (water column height).
Conversion Formulas:
- Feet of Head = PSI x 2.31
- PSI = Feet of Head / 2.31
Understanding Water Pressure
Water pressure isn’t about how big the tank or pipe is — it’s about how high the water is above the point of measurement. For every 2.31 feet of water height (also called “head”), you get about 1 psi (pound per square inch) of pressure. So, a tall, narrow pipe can create the same pressure as a wide one if the water is at the same height. This is why elevation matters so much in plumbing and water systems!
